In an ideal world, all of your clients would come from referrals. Having a past client recommend your firm to a family member or friend in need will be much more impactful than having a potential claimant see your firm’s name on a billboard. Unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible for your firm to get the volume you need from just referrals alone. Here are a few ways you can supplement your current caseload on a limited budget:
Digital Marketing
According to a FindLaw & Thomas Reuters survey, 38% of claimants found an attorney online in 2014. It’s likely that even more claimants connect with legal help nowadays, which means your firm should consider utilizing at least one form of digital marketing. Digital marketing can include, but is not limited, to, pay-per-click advertising, search engine optimization, email marketing, content marketing, and social medial marketing.
What’s the caveat to digital marketing? While costs are very low, you likely cannot do it on the side and hope to get many new clients. Your firm will need to either outsource all your marketing efforts, or hire someone to handle your campaigns in-house.
Networking in Your Area
Referrals don’t have to come from only past clients! Another way to increase your caseload is by networking with people in your area. You should cater your services to the audiences who you’d like to most work with. For example, personal injury attorneys may find it beneficial to offer assistance to local bicycle clubs or car clubs. Social Security attorneys may be able to volunteer with nonprofits in their area, such as independent living centers.
Optimizing Your Website
Some quick fixes can generate a big difference in the amount of claimants who choose to contact your firm. For example, you could add a header at the top of every page on your site that allows a user to send your firm an email. You can also experiment with colors used online: ConversionXL found that three separate case studies found an increase in conversions after changing their green “Contact Us” button to the color red. The color red might not be perfect for your firm’s website, and depending on your area of law, red might even be a bad choice (Social Security claimants may have difficulty seeing red or green). Testing small changes to your site could be one of the cheapest ways to find new cases.
Purchasing Case Leads
Lead generation is another profitable way for your firm to increase its caseload. Without investing in your own digital marketing efforts or hiring new staff members to handle your campaigns, you can pay instead for the contact information of someone who is interested in receiving legal help immediately. Some companies have no minimum purchase, which is great for firms with little-to-no marketing budget.
