During the holiday season, snow is a welcome accompaniment to parties, presents, ice-skating and hot cocoa drinking. However, after the New Year, snowstorms become more of a hassle for attorneys as your workload picks up and you can no longer afford to let the snow affect your productivity. Here are some ways to ensure that no matter the weather, you can always finish the workday feeling accomplished:

Have a Designated Workspace at Home

Working from home is often the only option in a blizzard. Whether you have an in-home office or are most productive on the couch, make sure that you have a space set up with everything that you need to get your work done. You want to avoid getting up and searching for a certain document or notebook, as other people (or pets!) in your household could take this as an opportunity to distract your from your work. Be sure that wherever you choose to set up is a space conducive to focusing on the task at hand.

Never Miss a Call

Find out if your phone provider has an app that will forward calls made to your office to your cell phone. This will allow you to stay connected with clients without having to give out your personal cell phone number. Similarly, you can also make outbound calls via your office phone in the event that you need to reach a client, judge, or hearing office.

Use Web-Based Software

Ensure that you always have access to all of your lead and client information by using a web-based software, such as eLuminate. Not being able to get into the office due to snow will be significantly less stressful if you know that you already have all of the documents and information that you need at your fingertips. You can also send emails to clients, as well as your fee agreement or other forms to be signed electronically. Stay Connected with Employees

Make sure that you are in contact with your paralegals and other employees throughout the day. Check that all clients’ inquiries are being answered and any new leads are being followed up with. Preferably prior to the storm, verify that all employees have access to their email, phones, any software your firm might use, and are familiar with their duties to avoid any stressful situations on the actual snow day.
