Almost every business has a “busy season,” and personal injury firms are no exception. Due to high settlements and plenty of insurance coverage, auto accident claims are among the most popular case types for personal injury attorneys. Some days of the year have significantly more auto accidents than others. If you’re personal injury attorney, prepare your intake staff for these busy days to make sure you’re ready for an increase in your caseload.
1. New Year’s Day
You may expect New Year’s Eve to have one of the highest instances of auto accidents, but most crashes happen late in the evening. While New Year’s Day is typically quiet, the wee hours of the night (12 AM – 3 AM) are typically riddled with auto accidents. It might come as no surprise that the majority of these deaths are alcohol related. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the first of the year has the most auto-accident deaths related to alcohol use compared to any other day of the year.
2. 4th of July
According to the IIHS, this was the deadliest day of the year for US drivers. Many people travel on the 4th of July to parties or for the coast for weekend getaways. More travelers on the road means there will be more auto accidents overall. Additionally, the 4th of July is also a popular day for drinking. The 4th saw the second-highest instance of alcohol-related auto accidents. Due to warmer weather, this day is particularly dangerous for motorcyclists, with more than twice as many average motorcyclists deaths than the yearly average.
3. Christmas Day
While not as many people drink and drive on Christmas, there are usually a lot of stressed-out drivers on the road. This coupled with the sheer volume of people traveling on Christmas means it’s a bad time of the year for auto accidents. Additionally, many areas of the US have snow and ice on the road during the holiday season, making it even more likely for auto accidents to occur.
4. Black Friday
Black Friday is far and away the busiest shopping day of the year. In a report gathered by Progressive, data showed that auto accidents increased by 34% on Black Friday, one-third of which were parking-lot related. Busy shoppers coupled with small parking lots makes for a sea of fender-bender and side-swiping auto accident claims.
What Does This Mean for Your Firm?
If you pay attention to the days of the year where you receive the most web or phone inquiries, you can adjust your marketing budget accordingly. There may not be a need to increase your weekly pay-per-click budget during the holiday season if you’ll be receiving 30% more inquiries anyway!
Many of the most dangerous times of the year are in the winter, which may leave your firm looking for additional cases in the spring, summer, and fall.
